MetroHealth System (MHS), a $1 billion tertiary care teaching affiliate for Case Western Reserve School of Medicine located in Cleveland, OH is seeking the Chief Quality Officer (CQO) of tomorrow. As Cleveland has undergone a transformation, so has MHS; the invigorating new CEO has led an operational turnaround that has resulted in bond financing for a replacement facility and campus redesign.
Building on the existing Quality Institute, this CQO will lead an evolution in the approach to quality within a complex system, ultimately moving beyond clinical and patient care services, to create an “enterprise-wide” philosophy and practice of quality that encompasses every department and every process within the System that touches a patient, their family and their caregiver.
MHS operates in a dyad structure, giving physicians significant voice and accountability at every level of this highly mission-driven organization. The CQO will access existing resources and create a plan to develop needed additional infrastructure and processes to attain the goal of becoming a high reliability organization.
This position is best suited for a high energy individual who is passionate about improving healthcare delivery process and outcomes, as well as its availability to all in the community. The CQO will need to be comfortable in a complex, matrix organization and committed to the tripartite missions of an academic center.
Physician candidates will be Board Certified in their specialty; graduate degree preferred. Non physicians must have a Master’s Degree or related healthcare degree; a Master’s Degree in healthcare quality and safety and/or certification as a professional in healthcare quality is preferred. All applicants must have a minimum of three to five years clinical/hospital operations experience, as well as five or more years of hospital Quality Improvement experience, and three or more years leading a complex hospital-wide Quality Improvement program.
