Functions to maximally assure that identification of risk exposure, assessment, appraisal and loss prevention are carried out so that the organization remains safe for its patients, families and employees. Supports the organization-wide patient safety improvement program and serves as Patient Safety Officer. Identifies patient safety issues and potential liability exposures, supports the reduction of medical errors or other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes; Investigates incidents, coordinates claims reviews, identifies and limits legal exposure; and directly assists in the handling and defense of legal claims by supporting the administration of professional and general liability claims.
QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Minimum:Bachelor Degree in Nursing or health-related field Preferred: Master Degree in Nursing or health-related field
License, Certification, Registration: Certified Professional Healthcare Risk Manager (CPHRM) or Associate in Risk Management (ARM) preferred, or to be obtained within five years of employment.
Experience: Minimum: Three years of risk/claims management experience in hospital setting. Preferred: Five years of risk/claims management experience in hospital setting for 150 or greater bed hospital, hospital outpatient locations and physician practices. Experience in insurance/legal claims management for both professional and general liability matters, to include assistance with completion of discovery. Experience in serving as Patient Safety Officer.
Other Requirements: Excellent computer skills including report and graphic generation, experience with windows based programs and claims management software. Ability to organize, prioritize and work independently.
