Vanderbilt University Medical Center Executive Search Team is conducting a national search for an Executive Director, Enterprise Product Management. The Executive Director will report directly to the VUMC Chief Information Officer (CIO) and lead a team comprised of product directors, product managers, developers, QA analysts, and a business intelligence and analytics team. The Executive Director, Enterprise Product Management will help VUMC stay abreast of trends and practices that will establish the Product Management group as a “Best in Class” operation; fostering productivity, security, and architectural discipline to support the continued growth VUMC is experiencing. The role will also ensure VUMC IT’s platforms and products are strategically managed to meet the needs of the organization. In VUMC IT, the Executive Director, Enterprise Product Management holds leadership and management responsibilities in the executive leadership team. This role is specifically responsible for taking ownership of VUMC’s enterprise and administrative products and systems including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office 365 suite, Skype, Box, and the ERP system suite. This role will also direct enterprise cloud storage solutions and vendor relationships; and is responsible for coordinating and clarifying these service offerings and costs to our customers. The Executive Director, Enterprise Product Management understands product architecture and security requirements so that VUMC leverages its existing underlying technology platforms to the greatest extent possible; or recommends investment in platform technologies and partners that strengthen VUMC’s strategic position. The Executive Director will be the face of our enterprise products to our internal customers. They will lead outreach functions to see how internal customers are using enterprise solutions. They will work with business partners to determine how to train and educate on ways to use enterprise products to obtain the best possible value. VUMC Information Technology (VUMC IT) is part of an overall IT structure that provides core infrastructure and hosting services for VUMC as well as support enterprise applications and administrative products. VUMC IT services include: Data Center Management, Hosting Services, Cloud Services, Network and Voice Services, End User Services, Collaboration, Administrative Application Development, Business Intelligence, and IT Purchasing and Contracts. Position Qualifications: • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent experience) and 10 years of experience (required) • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or Business Administration (ex. Management Information Systems) is preferred • Ten or more years of diverse IT experience in a combination of engineering, architecture, and/or enterprise IT operations management (preferably in the healthcare industry) • Ten years of leadership responsibilities with demonstrated experience in leading (directly and indirectly) large teams • Experience engaging executives and other stakeholders to support business decisions • Experience in transformation and organizational change management • Experience demonstrating exceptional oral and written communication skills with varied stakeholders (e.g. business, technical, executive) Knowledge and Skills: • Strong leadership skills, with the ability directly lead and manage a large team in a fast-paced environment • Strong collaboration skills, with demonstrated ability to create and foster a collaborative work environment and maintain effective, high performance teams • Strategic business focus and understanding; customer-focused perspective • Long-term focus and ability to make strategic recommendations and decisions surrounding difficult, complex, and critical issues • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills; ability to build an open environment where conflicts around project priorities and funding decisions can be aired and resolved in an objective, respectful, and supportive manner • Ability to build and deliver executive-level summary reports and presentations, and interface with business leaders as an ambassador of VUMC IT enterprise products • Distinctive blend of business acumen, including finance, IT, strategy, and operations knowledge • Deep understanding of current and emerging technologies and how other organizations are employing them to drive business results, and how they may be applied to VUMC • Proven ability to balance and manage multiple, competing priorities • Ability to operate effectively with cross-functional teams and drive results independently • Strong organizational and analytical skills • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills • Strong interpersonal skills (oral and written communication) Primary Responsibilities and Activities: Business Management • Establish and maintain relationships with key business and technology stakeholders, and facilitate decisions regarding product capabilities and priorities • Perform internal and external customer research by means of surveys, product analytics, market research, interviews, online forums, or other cost-effective means of gaining insight into the "voice of the customer." Use this insight to define the customer segments the product will target, to understand those customers' goals, and how they would gain value from product capabilities • Perform competitive analysis on product alternatives that business partners might use to understand what capabilities and qualities the product must have to attract customers away from those alternatives — and keep them satisfied • Facilitate and drive alignment among key stakeholders, supplying customer and market research and analytics to converge on a product strategy, vision, and roadmap. Use alignment strategies to help the business achieve its goals and objectives, according to a shared view of product priorities. Define roadmaps by defining a release strategy, from early pilots, through minimum viable product (MVP), to subsequent enterprise releases • Work within the product budget established in consultation with business sponsors and product-line managers by balancing resources across customer and market research, competitive analysis, vision development, and prototyping • Work with key stakeholders to make frequent and dynamic prioritization decisions based on product analysis, product team metrics, and customer feedback. Define, track, and communicate key product performance indicators as required to inform this process, and track business results • Work with key stakeholders to develop and refine business and pricing models for the product, providing recommendations on centralized and decentralized cost models, as appropriate • Bring products to market by ensuring VUMC IT and its vendor partners are prepared to deliver and service the product throughout its life cycle. Primarily serving internal customers, ensure that VUMC IT (and any other relevant support organizations) is prepared to deliver and support the entire spectrum of product delivery (including all human, organizational, process, and physical aspects, such as training for call-center agents) Product Delivery Management • Execute platform product management including managing the strategy and roadmap for enterprise platforms based on requirements and roadmaps of all the products that depend upon it. • Collaborate and coordinate with other product management group in VUMC to avoid duplication and manage dependencies. • Act as the keeper and communicator of the vision to translate the enterprise product strategies developed with business stakeholders into tangible requirements the product team needs to ensure they are enabling the right product features and capabilities • Define the product roadmap based on business outcomes. • Oversee product delivery teams and ensure coordination of backlog priorities. • Serve as a strategic advisor to the VUMC IT CIO and provide integrated leadership to VUMC IT with the executive leadership team • Build and maintain relationships with VUMC IT, Health IT, and business department leadership. Build an effective communication framework across VUMC that supports successful product delivery. • Lead the identification and development of Product Management roles, team design, and recruitment. Provide ongoing coaching and mentoring to Product Management team staff • Define, manage and direct the end-to-end Product Management, which includes leveraging best practices and techniques in research, architecture, and service delivery for enterprise products.
