Performs various procedures with multiple patient specimen sources such that the accurate personal health information and chain of custody is preserved. Performs duties to process patient samples, extract and analyze nucleic acids, and proper placement of samples in biorepository storage facilities following CLIA regulations and guidelines.
Assists with duties of patient sample retrieval and preparation for multiple purposes including shipments to collaborators to allow return of results to patients and for various research projects.
Works under the direct supervision of a MyCode Senior Laboratory Technician and/or a MyCode Laboratory Technical Specialist (s) and under the administrative direction of the appropriate Supervisor or Director.
Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.

Demonstrates advanced knowledge and proficiency of computer operations including Microsoft Office applications and database management software.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences, health sciences, life sciences, or related fields from an accredited institution required.
Up to six months on the job to reach acceptable level of performance required.
Previous experience with laboratory bench work is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Possible exposure to infection from disease bearing specimens. Exposure to odorous chemicals and specimens. Must comply with applicable safety procedures. Physical demands: Standing: remaining on one's feet in an upright position. Handling: Seizing, holding, grasping, or otherwise working with hands. Fingering: Picking, pinching, or otherwise working with fingers. Vision requirements: Able to pass standardized color vision test. Protective Equipment (as required by procedure performed): Eye protection, face protection, lab coat, non-sterile medical gloves.
