JOB TITLE: Genetic Counselor / Research Coordinator, Senior LOCATION: Research Center DEPARTMENT: CSO Admin. WORK SCHEDULE: Days WORK TYPE: Full Time (1.0 FTE)
JOB SUMMARY:
Licensed Genetic Counselors with work experience in the areas of medical genetics and genetic counseling. Work as leaders of health care and research teams, providing information and support to families, individuals considering genetic testing, and to individuals participating or considering participating in research.
Develop and manage research projects and clinical programs related to the field of medical genetics, genetic testing, genetic counseling, and bioethics. Supervise Research and Clinical Staff including Genomic Medicine Assistants (GMAs), Genetic Counselor 1’s, and Genetic Counselor 2’s.
Serve as program leaders, consultants, educators and resources for other health care professionals and the general public.
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:
Demonstrates commitment to institutional and professional leadership through one or more of below:
· Significant leadership position in state/national/institutional organization (e.g. board of directors). · Participate in internal and external science advisory committees. · Work with the Geisinger Health Plan and other payors to develop policies for genomic medicine initiatives and coverage. · Invited speaker for external events.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires graduate degree in genetic counseling from an ACGC accredited college/university, ABGC certification, Pennsylvania and other states license as needed and Geisinger clinical credentials in genetic counseling.
Minimum of 7 years’ experience as a genetic counselor.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Work is typically performed in a research office or an out-patient clinical/office environment.
May require regional and/or national travel. Weekend and evening hours may be necessary for certain clinical research project activities.
