Tenet Healthcare and Detroit Medical Center have a fantastic opportunity for a Full-time Physician Advisor in Detroit, MI.
The Physician Advisor is responsible to the hospital Chief Financial Officer for the coordination and management of medical staff affairs, liaison with medical staff, assistance in quality and process improvement and utilization review programs, the development and coordination of appropriate medical education and hospital based research, physician relations, and physician advisor to the case management department. Manages the administration of the hospital’s medical staff functions and medical education programs, and generally provides professional expertise for administration in medical affairs. This involves development and operation of programs and policies of interests to the hospital medical staff and to the hospital as a whole, within the framework established by the Board of Trustees. It also includes the promotion of favorable professional relations within the hospital and community as a whole.
Provides consultation services to the assigned department consistent with the policies and standard of DMC and sound medical practice.
Performs duties consistent with all applicable accrediting agencies, third party payor requirements and professional ethics. Works cooperatively with the department personnel, physicians and other personnel, prepares appropriate documentation of services provided and participates in assignments from third party payors.
Performs concurrent review of medical records for causes which fail to meet criteria for admission or continued stay.
Exercises clinical judgment to over-ride screening criteria and approve admission or continued stay.
Performs all duties and responsibilities required of a physician in assessing quality and cost effective care in accordance with accepted medical standards and protocol.
Collaborates effectively with department staff, other physicians and other personnel consistent with professional medical standards.
Adheres to all applicable professional, ethical, and legal standards in the performance of duties.
Prepares timely and accurate charts and forms to document services provided as prescribed by the department.
Completes documentation as required by third party payors.
Participates in development, implementation and evaluation of utilization review programs. Participates in meeting department, fiscal and operational goals.
Maintains and enhances professional expertise through a personal development program of education/organizational activities.

M.D. or D.O. with current Michigan State License in good standing
Board Certification in a specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties
Previous experience as a Physician Advisor is preferred; will consider previous Administrative and/or Leadership experience
Experience as a physician leader in a large system, hospital, integrated delivery system or leader of a large complex department
Reputation as an excellent clinician with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in medical practice
At least five years of clinical experience involving the delivery of direct patient care in a hospital setting
