Position Purpose: The Executive Chief Financial Officer will serve as a confidant to the Trinity Health CEO as well as the Trinity Health COO and provide the strategic and tactical leadership and direction on the financial affairs of the regions. This individual is a key steward of the financial and physical assets and serves as a strategic partner with the Trinity Health leaders in setting the vision and direction. This individual develops and executes financial strategies, initiatives, systems and processes that optimize current and future performance. This individual has a system minded approach that ensures that system financial policies and procedures are consistently and accurately reflected in the philosophy, approach and every day aspects of finance across the regions. The Executive CFO, as a member of the Executive Leadership Team supports the region-based CFOs in their roles as members of senior management. This position also provides leadership, guidance and direction to system level capital planning, financial planning, financial reporting, revenue cycle, accounting, reimbursement and operating entity support functions through a well aligned coordination with the respective Trinity Health functional leaders and the regional based leaders. The Executive CFO assures the financial integrity of the organization. He/she works collaboratively with the regional and all system functions in the achievement of each region's financial and operational objectives as well as the overall system objectives. The Executive CFO also represents the organization with business, governmental and community leaders as requested. The Executive CFO reports to Michael Slubowski, Trinity Health, President and Chief Executive Officer. Essential Functions: • Counselor to the CEO – As a member of the CEO’s ’s direct support team, is a sought- after counselor to the CEO to assist in the development and execution of strategies and operational initiatives that optimize current and future performance • Operational and Strategic Perspective – In supporting the COO of Trinity Health, is a hands-on executive who can see the big picture and has a strategic perspective, while
focusing on the financial and operational challenges of each region with consideration for local regional trends and their impact on the business • Oversee the performance and development of the Regional CFOs and their teams. In addition to standard performance reviews, works with the Regional CFOs to build bench strength between them and their site-based CFO’s that would provide strong internal candidates for any future succession plan needs. Using informatics, must be able to establish, pursue and monitor appropriate process and outcome measures for key initiatives using a system-wide perspective; evaluating processes and identifying areas of opportunity; setting standards for outcomes; developing appropriate systems to monitor outcomes; and overseeing the implementation of process improvements at the strategic level • Governance Support - Provides support to regional leadership in interactions with their Board(s) of Directors as well as support to the Trinity Health CEO relative to materials and analyses for the Trinity Health Board and Committees • Mergers and Acquisitions - The individual will have an integral role in Trinity Health strategy to selectively expand its footprint to new regions as well as consolidating/divesting positions in existing regions • Building Relationships - This role will involve traveling to the various ministries approximately 30-40%. • The Executive CFO will be responsible for coordinating financial aspects of the evaluations with strategy and operational leadership within Trinity Health; providing input to the Trinity Health CEO relative to valuation and optimal structures, including but not limited to full acquisition, joint operating agreements, joint ventures, and management agreements. In addition, this role will strategically oversee management of alternative payment models, revenue cycle, production functions, and automation. Provide leadership and oversight to execute the organization’s strategy, and ensure people, processes, IT systems and resources are in place to meet the strategic aims of delivering better health, better care at lower costs for communities served and sustainability for the Ministry. Partners with the CEO in providing overall strategic leadership for the organization by overseeing all operations and serving as the chief functional and operational integrator. Works closely with the CEO, the Board and other EVPs in developing ministry strategy. Carries out other matters as designated by the
Knowledge Skills & Experience: • Bachelor’s Degree (BA, BS) in Business Administration is required • Master’s Degree (MS, MBA) in Business, Accounting or Finance strongly preferred • CPA license and Fellow with HFMA are highly desirable • Significant executive-level finance experience with demonstrated career progression in significant roles in finance or as a Chief Finance Officer in an integrated healthcare system is required. Experience in a multi-hospital system is preferred • Public accounting experience desired but not required
