The System Director of Performance Improvement is responsible for providing overall direction for all performance improvement activities, special projects and initiatives identified by System CQTO and PHH executive team. This position reports to Penn Highlands Healthcare System Chief Quality & Transformation Officer (CQTO).
This position requires a leader that is able to facilitate and drive change in a fast paced and ever changing environment leveraging his/her strong interpersonal skills, Lean tools and business acumen. Key to success in this position is the ability to work within and across the organization at all levels creating value and buy-in. This position will apply Lean concepts to improvement efforts across the organization, working collaboratively with senior leaders, service line leaders and medical staff to identify process gaps, cost/expense variations and improvement opportunities. Must be able to drive change, lead cross-functional teams, and coach and develop Lean skills within the team and across the organization.
The primary objective of this position is to facilitate strategic/operational changes and process improvement initiatives/projects designed to achieve significant results which support improving quality, safety and experience and reducing cost, with a focus on clinical quality, cost effectiveness, service delivery, process redesign, outcomes measurement, risk avoidance/control, and regulatory compliance. This position collaborates with a broad constituency at all organizational levels to improve in the areas of clinical quality, patient safety, patient experience/satisfaction, and operations advocating for the adoption and application of performance improvement concepts aimed at increasing value to our patients and colleagues through utilization of Penn Highlands Management System Framework. Consults with senior leaders and leads the performance improvement and data analytics department of PHH.
• Bachelors degree in Health Care Administration, Business, Engineering or other related field required • Masters degree in public health, health care administration or business preferred. • 7+ years relevant experience in process improvement, project management, data analysis, reporting, and management systems framework. • 5+ years’ experience in a Lean organization in a consultant or an operational leadership/management role. • Demonstrated understanding and applicable use of improvement science tools and techniques for business management and a strong knowledge of financial analysis required. • Knowledge and experience implementing Lean management systems including Hoshin Kanri (Strategy Deployment) Cross-Functional and Daily Management • Experience with Lean improvement techniques including 5S, Pull Systems, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, Flow Systems, Jidoka, A3, etc. • LSS Certification required. • Proficient in basic statistical processes and analysis and the ability to learn and apply statistics to program improvement projects. • Experience in coaching senior level leaders through large scale change. • Strong project management and change management principles and practice • Advanced written & verbal communication skills including, interpersonal, negotiation, facilitation • Analytical, organizational development and change management skills • Demonstrated experience with consulting on complex systems & projects, and success in managing and achieving results across a large organization. • Healthcare industry experience preferred. • Ability to problem-solve and utilize critical thinking skills to address challenges. • Excellent leadership, project planning skills required. • Proficient personal computer skills, including MS applications required.
