This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Duties included but are not limited to: Responsible for the clinical and administrative aspects of the facility Infection Control program, working collaboratively with the Infectious Disease Director, The Multi Drug Resistant Coordinator/MDRO, other Infection Control Nurses, Patient Care Service Chiefs, and serving as a consultant for other members of the clinical and facility leadership team to prevent and manage infectious disease in the Medical Center. Serves as expert practitioner and facility subject matter expert (SME) and consultant for hospital infection control. Responsible for collecting and analyzing data for infection control measures, including, but not limited to, prevalence rates, infection rates, transmission rates, and colonization rates; and reporting to all stakeholders, including the VHA National Data Base and IPEC; and using the data effectively to evaluate outcomes. Participates in the development, review and revision of infection control guidelines, policies, and procedures consistent with national standards for infection control. Ensures the practices of healthcare employees, visitors, and students are consistent with infection prevention standards and consults with service leaders on educational needs. Serves as SME for hospital water safety, engineering/construction, environmental services, emergency management, and facility safety. Collaborates with other infection control nurses, infectious disease, and multidisciplinary teams to evaluate the environment of patients, patient care environment, and patient care equipment and products, to ensure they meet the internal and external standards of infection control and prevention. Collaborates with other infection control nurses, Epidemiologist, Patient Care Service and other service lines of the BVAMC, and community infection preventionists to exchange knowledge and share clinical expertise in infection control and prevention to improve quality of patient care outcomes. Must be flexible in assignment to meet the facility infection control needs and will participate on service, medical center and VISN committees and taskforces to improve patient care outcomes. Communicates and interacts appropriately and courteously with all internal and external customers; Learns and teaches culture change and positive deviance principles to staff, students, volunteers to improve quality of patient care and safety. Utilizes various software programs including but not limited to CPRS, VISTA, IPEC, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word. Creates activate, and/or maintain computer alerts and progress notes to identify previously infected or colonized patients. Interpret laboratory values and analyze findings of diagnostic tests Provides effective and accurate reports and presentations. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to identify, evaluate, plan, implement and track required surveillance of infection control data. Collects, inputs, analyzes, interprets and reports data from various sources, data banks, and local programs to assure compliance with standards and performance improvement. Prepares clear, relevant, and easily understood reports required by local, VISN, National and Regulatory Agencies. Monitors compliance with Infection Control Standards in assigned areas. Collaborates with interdisciplinary leadership to identify, evaluate, plan and implement action plans for improvement to assure compliance with Infection Control Standards. Consults with interdisciplinary leadership to identify, plan and provide education to Medical Center employees across service lines.
