The role you’ll contribute:
The system-wide Safety Director is appointed by the President of the Hospital and given the authority to intervene whenever conditions pose an immediate threat to life or health, or damage to buildings or equipment.The Safety Director is qualified to direct and facilitate actions to optimize personal and environmental safety in and around AdventHealth properties. The Safety Director, through the Administrative Director of Facilities, the Assistant Vice President of Facilities Administration, the Vice President of Facilities Administration and the Physical Environment Committee, works to formulate policies, evaluate information and implement corrective action in issues related to Safety, Hazardous Materials and Wastes, Emergency Management, Fire Prevention, and participates in processes to support Security, Utilities, and Medical Equipment Management. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Develop and facilitate implementation of Safety and Physical Environment Policy, SOPs, Work Instructions, and educational material supporting related processes for all AdventHealth personnel.
Direct the operation of the Hazard Communication program (chemical safety and SDS).
Respond to incidents related to the Physical Environment and investigate safety issues as needed.
Provide support and oversight for internal AdventHealth processes to comply with standards requiring fire drills, fire alarm system testing, life safety inspections, and disaster exercises
Direct the operation of the Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) program in coordination with Safety, Construction, and Infection Prevention personnel to prevent contamination of our buildings and harmful exposure to employees and patients during construction and renovation projects.
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you'll need to succeed:
EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Associate’s degree or accredited college courses in science or technology related field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, etc
Education Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in science or technology related field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, etc.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
If education preference above is not met, a minimum of 5 years’ experience in:
a healthcare- related safety profession or
demonstrable background in community emergency preparedness and response, or
health and safety management, and
three years on the job training in healthcare safety
Practical experience with a healthcare accreditation inspection process
Experience Preferred:
Practical experience with Det Norske Veritas (DNV) inspection processes
Practical experience with the Joint Commission (JC) inspection processes
OSHA on-scene Incident Commander training
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Preferred:
Professional safety certification in one or more of the following: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP), Certified Healthcare Environmental Manager (CHEM).
Successful completion of a certified RCRA hazardous waste course acceptable to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
OSHA 24-Hour HAZWOPER Training
OSHA 24-Hour Hazardous Materials Technician Level training
